DARE: Change Happens in Your Calendar / How to Get 3.5 Years of Life Back.

The key to a $1.3T opportunity

A new trend in real estate is making the most expensive properties obtainable. It’s called co-ownership, and it’s revolutionizing the $1.3T vacation home market.

The company leading the trend? Pacaso. Created by the founder of Zillow, Pacaso turns underutilized luxury properties into fully-managed assets and makes them accessible to the broadest possible market.

The result? More than $1b in transactions, 2,000+ happy homeowners, and over $110m in gross profits for Pacaso.

With rapid international growth and 41% gross profit growth last year, Pacaso is ready for what’s next. They even recently reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

But the real opportunity is now, before public markets. Until 5/29, you can join leading investors like SoftBank and Maveron for just $2.80/share.

This is a paid advertisement for Pacaso’s Regulation A offering. Please read the offering circular at invest.pacaso.com. Reserving a ticker symbol is not a guarantee that the company will go public. Listing on the NASDAQ is subject to approvals. Under Regulation A+, a company has the ability to change its share price by up to 20%, without requalifying the offering with the SEC.

Thought of the Week:

Change isn’t a mystery.  It’s a calendar entry.

Change Happens in Your Calendar.

Focus Of The Week.

A quarter of a century ago, I was much younger(!).  I was also a lawyer.

That combination had me living in my head, logical, boxed, measured, rule-following: rather nervous and far too obedient.

Other people (senior lawyers) and my guilt/fear of letting others down filled my calendar.

Not long after starting my business in 2000, A Yahoo search on a noisy dial-up internet connection led me to the designer Bruce Mau’s Incomplete Manifesto for Growth.

One phrase lodged itself so deeply in my psyche that it began a slow transformation:

“Time is genetic. Today is the child of yesterday and the parent of tomorrow. The work you produce today will create your future.”

It hit me and has had a profound impact on my life, my relationships and my work. So simple. So true. Never taught at school and rarely understood by parents.

I was not in control of my time – my emotions were, my Tiger was..

And therefore, I was not in control of my life, my experience of life, my work or my future results.

My calendar was full, but it wasn’t full of the right ACTIONS because I wasn’t making the right DECISIONS. And so the RESULTS I wanted weren’t showing up.

You can hit reply now if you resonate with that and want to share. You’ll reach my inbox directly.

COMPETITION: Can You Help Me Empower Others In our age of uncertainty, anxiety and transformation, we can help MORE people with these important tools.

Just as Mau (and all great designers in my view) thrive on clarity and simplicity, so DARE is a clear and simple model design.

I know from correspondence, one to one work and my large scale cultural architecture commissions that DARE has changed many more lives than just mine.

We all seem to want lots of ‘science backed’ books to buy and ignore over the answer that is in front of us.

So please don’t be fooled by the simplicity of a model for change that reminds you that your Decisions, Actions and humble Evaluation deliver (the majority of – sh*t happens) your Results.

And please don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the message today:

Change happens in your calendar. That’s the only place it can happen.

Change your life expectancy?

New Actions in your calendar.

Change your professional qualifications, relationships, sales figures, marathon time, swim stroke, piano skills, the beauty of your garden?

New Actions in your calendar.

But your Calendar is full of stuff. So you need to say “No".

And “No” makes the Tiger roar. We all back away from “No”. So the enemy here is actually fear-driven Decision making

You may need to (random examples):

📺 Reclaim time from box sets and wine on the sofa having ‘quality time’ scrolling beside your partner.

💻 Say no to recurring Zooms where people have their cameras off (nobody can multitask) and that add no value to the results you’re paid to deliver.

📈 Say no to a project that looks exciting and career-enhancing

The Tiger will roar!

Not convinced you have time to do the thing?

Try this:

One hour of social media a day in your calendar

= 365 hours/year ≈ 15 full (24 hour) days =

≈ 5 months a decade

= 3.5 entire years of your life over 70 years

That’s a lot of origami practice!

Book Jim To Speak

A Challenge For Today.

DECIDE on a thing you’d like to have as a RESULT.

DECIDE on an ACTION that would deliver it.

DECIDE on an entry you can delete from your calendar – communicate (if necessary) to the other parties.

Schedule your ACTION.

Then protect your new calendar like your future depends on it—because it does.

Because time is genetic.

Change happens in your calendar!

Book Of The Week.

This week’s book is a wonderful reminder that we have limited amounts of our most precious resource: TIME.

Time, the paper we get given to write our story upon.

Probably, in fact, only around 4,000 weeks. According to Oliver Burkeman and his kick up the ass to stop living other people’s lives book: ‘Four Thousand Weeks’.

I’ve had 2,980 of mine. You?

Now to be totally transparent, I enjoyed, immensely, the early part as an audiobook on my travels. I had received the value it had to offer me personally long before the book ended so I saved myself some precious time and moved on.

But the investment in the first half repaid itself amply. I hope you enjoy it too!

My Week

My INSPIRE! Course is used by many organisations as a vital tool to deliver cultural change. This week began with my absolute favourite 2 hour MasterClass from the course (which I run from my office) on how to coach the AWARENESS in others that they can do things far beyond their current abilities.

From there to a busy run of events. All UK based. First to spend time with 600 ambitious and committed colleagues at an iconic UK retailer that we Brits all know and love. They are planning to totally re-invigorate their proposition to the UK public – a treat coming for British consumers!

On to visit the mighty RAC as they continue to evolve in a changing world, whilst carefully managing fleets of highly trained men and women 24/7 out on the roads in all weathers looking after distressed parents, kids, commuters and more. New services, new tech, new ambitions and a wonderful team.

Finally, as two tech giants merge, time with the teams on generating opportunity and having the courage to excel and contribute ideas in a time of uncertainty to help shape the future.

All done whilst getting my training and sleep back on track – thank you to all my STRAVA friends who have been keeping me encouraged – and MASSIVE congratulations to all of you on your week’s work too – utterly inspirational to follow you all as you prove that: CHANGE HAPPENS IN YOUR CALENDAR!

Now it’s time to pack up our house this weekend as my daughter moves on from her school soon. I’ll keep you posted!

Change happens in your calendar.
